It’s a well known fact that Mooresville is home to some of the best schools around. MGSD is nationally known for it’s digital conversion measures and studied by other school systems all over the country. In June of 2013, the President of the United States even paid a visit to MGSD to acknowledge it’s accomplishments stating that it is a great example for other school systems to follow. See the White House press release about that here. Once again this year Mooresville Graded School District has proven that. Overall, the district met 96.1% of its Annual Measurable Object (AMO) targets, which was higher than any other district in the state!
Ginger Huffstickler, director of testing and accountability for the MGSD, said the district only missed five of the 128 AMO targets, four of which revolved around participation rates for the ACT and ACT WorkKeys.
Numbers contributing to the score included a math course rigor rating that exceeded 95%, the district had a 89.6% four year graduation rate and approximately 74.9% of juniors passed the ACT at Mooresville High School.
In an article published by the Mooresville Tribune on September 7, 2014, Huffstickler noted that the district ranked 5th in the state for it’s ACT percentage of students meeting the University of North Carolina system admissions requirement for a composite score of 17.
East Mooresville Intermediate School met 100% of it’s AMOs and met its growth status while Mooresville Intermediate met 97.4% of it’s AMOs, the school exceeded it’s growth status. Mooresville Middle School met 95.8% of it’s AMOs and met it’s growth status. Mooresville High School met 94.5% of it’s AMOs and exceeded growth status. It should be noted that ALL elementary schools in MGSD met 100% of their AMO targets.
Mooresville Graded School District has many other accomplishments as well. Recently, the Mooresville Middle School Principal Carrie Tulbert, Ed.D., was named NC Principal of the Year. NF Woods saw 17 students qualify for the National CTE competetition and 2014 graduate Andrew Smith earned the national championship in Technical Drafting. This year a French TV channel is doing a documentary on a National 1:1 initiative for France. In a recent article on School Hub, Mooresville Graded School District was rated #1 in the region for return on investment!
